Mammoth hold off Capitals 3-2, dropping Washington 4 points back of a playoff spot
JJ Peterka scored in the second period on a bizarre bounce, and the Utah Mammoth beat the Washington Capitals 3-2 on Tuesday night. Dylan Guenther and Mikhail Sergachev scored for the Mammoth, who took an early 2-0 lead and held off the Capitals in a matchup of teams near the playoff cutoff lines. Pierre-Luc Dubois and Ryan Leonard scored for Washington, which fell to four points behind Boston for the second wild card in the East.

U.S. Olympic golden goal-scorer Jack Hughes extended his points streak to four games since returning from Milan, and the New Jersey Devils dealt the Florida Panthers' playoff hopes another blow by beating the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions 5-1 on Tuesday night. Hughes' shot that went wide banked right to Dougie Hamilton for his goal. Hughes has four assists — one in each game — since the NHL season resumed.

Minnesota Wild acquire center Michael McCarron in a trade with the Nashville Predators
Returning to Minnesota after the Olympics when the U.S. team he constructed won gold, Wild general manager Bill Guerin left open a lot of possibilities he could explore ahead of the NHL trade deadline. “Yeah, our faceoffs,” Guerin said earlier this week. “Our center position is extremely important.”

Sabres honor US Olympian Tage Thompson, with ex-captain Jack Eichel even getting a cheer
Sabres forward Tage Thompson became the latest U.S. hockey gold medal-winning Olympian to be honored at home in a ceremony on Tuesday night in which even former captain and Vegas Golden Knights forward Jack Eichel got a rare cheer in Buffalo. Thompson scored three goals and added an assist in his Olympic debut at the Milan Cortina Games. Thompson was cheered upon being introduced as part of the starting lineup.
