Chris Spielman’s son one of five Div III players facing felony charges over alleged hazing

One of the greatest players to ever pull on an Ohio State uniform has seen his son show up in the headlines for all of the wrong reasons. Arrest warrants were issued this week by a DuPage County (Ill.) judge for five Wheaton College football players — James Cooksey, Kyler Kregel, Benjamin Pettway, Noah Spielman and Samuel TeBos. Noah Spielman is the son of Chris Spielman, the former Buckeye All-American linebacker and College Football Hall of Famer who is now an analyst for FOX Sports. All five Div. III players are facing felony charges of aggravated battery, mob action and unlawful restraint.  $50,000 bonds for each player has been set. As of late Tuesday night, none of those involved had turned

Who among Notre Dame’s receivers might emerge

The stat continues to be referenced in this space because it is somewhat hard to believe: Irish receivers accounted for three catches and 11 yards in Notre Dame’s 49-20 victory over Boston College last weekend. As a whole, the passing game accounted for 96 of the 611 total Irish yards. “Clearly we have to work on our weaknesses, right?” Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said Tuesday. “So wherever we feel like our weaknesses are within the offense, we have to get better at those weaknesses each and every week.” The weakness would seem to be the aerial attack as a whole with an emphasis on threats created by the supposed downfield playmakers. The latter half of this particular topic will be discussed

From players to coaches to fans Vandy wants Bama

Vanderbilt is worthy of being ranked right now, as it prepares to host No. 1 Alabama on Saturday. Even after two top-25 finishes for the Dores in this decade, that still feels wild to type. With a 3-0 start, an upset win over previously ranked Kansas State, and one of the nation's best defenses (No. 11 in yards per play vs. FBS teams, No. 16 in S&P+), Vandy believes in itself, no matter the opponent. That extends from coaches ... “I truly believe our guys are going to get to work today, hammer out the plan over the next couple of days, and we’ll have something for Alabama,” [head coach Derek] Mason said, who added that Alabama has one of the best run defenses in the country. Mason admitted that

‘Burner Phone’ Accusation Marks New Chapter in Ole Miss Scandal

In August, University of Mississippi athletic director Ross Bjork assembled the football team’s coaching staff in a meeting room. The unusual demand was in response to an accusation that coaches at Ole Miss—already under NCAA investigation for recruiting violations—had improperly used burner phones to contact football recruits, according to records reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.
